kilometres from Hnelva railway statlon.
It is surrounded by hills which prevent its bein seen u n ti! these are
reached. Its famous Ihtle port is now properly deedged and a new quay has
recently been built to Iacilllate the passage across the river.
The village possesses an ancíent church from the pulpit of which was

The image of Our Lady oí the Miracle which was kept in La Rabida,

Saint Luke.
Palos' most notable monument is the Church which contains many
important and interesting curios o,f ancient times.
"foguer.--As previously.stated thís town is separated from Palos by
, a short distance. It lies in a fertile country, and íts whitewashed houses
amongst which 'predomlnates the tower of Santa María de Granada's Church
-cutting their silhouettes against the limpid blue sky can be seen from aíar.
The town is progressing now-a-days and its clean streets are' formed
by beautiful and worthy buíldíngs as a proof of its livelíness. '

Santa Clara's Convento This famous Convent stands. on the nor
thern part of the town, and although the outsícle do es not make an ímpressíon
for lack of architectural richness, the visitor is more than compensated by the
works that can-be admired within the Church. When one enters, going down
the wide slaircase whích leads to the inside oí the Temple, thé stríklng spec
tacle of the inner conslruction causes the visitor to catch his breath in won
der. Right in the cenlre oí the Chapel, rising from the pavement stands the
grave oí the Portocarreros, Lords of Moguer, over whích lie the statues of 5
members oi the family of the íounders. ' '
Stretching out from the cover of the grave is a marble plate bearing
the names of 'the individuals there interred.
This important work is an exceptional exarnple ol the artlstíc wealth
of the Andalucian reglen.
Columbus hlmselí prayed in this Convent just before sailing for the
new Wor.id."" ' ,
Moguer cer tainly is a beautiíul town and forms part of the so-called
«Circuito Colombino» (Columbus Circuit) íor, in faet, the tourists should vi

bus to make his dreams come true.
Aracena.--Bf autllül and privileged corner oí the Huelva province [us
tly called the Metropolis of the «Sierraýÿ (Mountainous district).
Its marvellous vistas and extremely good elimate make it the pride
nol only of Huelva and ils province, but also of Andalucía.
-- The distance which s eparates it frem eilher Huelva or Seville is corn
oaratively short, whílst travelling by ihe road Jeading to the town is sorne
tíliñg beyond description. The landscape al! along the road ls a dream. Apart
from its natural beauties, the town preserves many priceless historie relics,
sUch as Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion's Church and the proud Castle,
the ancient resldence of Waliwho ruled, in Mohamme dan times, the Arace
na district.:
There are still sorne rernains which give and idea úf the primitive

seeing.
Other wonderful relies which specially deserve to be mentioned are: the
